Laura G. Lee is a second-generation Korean American born in the wild mountains of West Virginia. Her forest-filled childhood, pondering beings great and small, nurtured a keen sense of observation that Laura brings to her lifelong career as a designer and artist.

She achieved her MA in Interactive Design from NYU Tisch School of the Arts where her thesis was an interactive digital installation and reaction to 9-11, which she experienced firsthand as a resident of Lower Manhattan. Her second MA is in Architecture, from Columbia University, and her undergraduate thesis, from Brown University, was an interactive story project and collaboration between the Urban Studies and Creative Writing departments that garnered her the honor of ‘Best Thesis’. She’s subsequently worn the hats of filmmaker, design researcher, and product designer.

Laura’s first book, Cat Eyes (Ripple Grove Press) was lauded by Kirkus Reviews as “A visually captivating read for anyone who has always wanted cats to literally be everywhere." She enjoys illustrating in traditional mediums—watercolor, ink, and color pencil—as well as digitally, and you might find her using her right or left hand because she’s ambidextrous. (She switched to left in first grade on a dare!) Laura is passionate about visual storytelling and aims to craft stories that spark a child’s connection with the world around them.

Laura lives in a lovingly-restored Eichler home in Northern California, where she lives with her husband, son, and daughter. When she's not making books or volunteering as a visiting art teacher at local schools, you might spot her around town on a perpetual hunt for authentic Korean-Chinese jajangmyeon (a black bean noodle dish eaten in Seoul, Korea in the 1960s) or delightfully discovering modern day uses for Korean gochujang (red chili paste)
