Zanni Louise is an Australian author of more than 25 books for children. She grew up on a small farm in rural New South Wales where she spent a lot of time alone, sitting inside a cave-like ancient olive tree, making up stories to tell her imaginary friends. Her writing began in earnest at age six on her dad’s typewriter; she even endeavored an eight-page autobiography that same year! Zanni wrote stories and plays all through school and made her brothers perform them at Christmas (until they went on strike). She later studied Art History at the University of Melbourne with a minor in Creative Writing. The plays she wrote while in college were performed at festivals and pubs around the city. Her first book, Too Busy Sleeping (Hardie Grant Egmont, 2015) was a Notable Book in the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year awards. Archie and the Bear (Hardie Grant Egmont, 2017) was a Notable Book as well and was also included in the prestigious International White Raven’s Catalogue. The Human Kind series (Five Mile Press), was shortlisted for the Australian Book Design Awards and Human-Kind Persistence (2020) was awarded Highly Commended by Australian Educational Publishing Awards; the series itself has been a bestseller. Zanni teaches at the Australian Writers Centre and is proud to be an author ambassador for Room To Read, an organization helping to educate children.
